Drawing to Learn. Join Vinish Janardhanan and John Muir Laws for an exploration of art, nature, and learning.

Join Vinish Janardhanan and John Muir Laws for a look at how drawing can connect you with the natural world and make you a lifelong learner. Vinish is a designer, photographer, and artist with a deep love for birding. His passion for capturing and communicating the beauty of nature inspires both his art and his curiosity, pushing him to continually grow and refine his skills. For Vinish, sketching is at the core of his creative process—a secret superpower that helps him see the world more deeply, learn its nuances, and connect with it meaningfully. This daily ritual not only grounds him but also energizes his creativity, making it an essential part of his life. Currently, Vinish is immersed in a personal project centered around the majestic Great Blue Heron, which has become both a muse and a learning tool. By studying its anatomy and the intricate details of its feathers, he tackles the challenge of capturing the essence of its form, posture, and movement.

Originally from India, Vinish now lives in San Francisco with his wife, Neha. They have embarked on a shared adventure to explore California’s natural wonders as “Lazy Birders“. Through their journey, they hope to inspire a deeper respect and fascination for California’s natural wonders, among other things. They are both enrolled in the current cohort of the Master Birder Program by the California Academy of Sciences and Golden Gate Bird Alliance. The Lazy Birders, Vinish and Neha are gearing up for their next adventure to lead a Bird walk and a Photo walk at Morro Bay Bird Festival 2025.
